Dedede (15 May 2026) is a performance work by KillersForLunch, documented in a single photograph. It is the only entry in the catalogue executed in costume rather than in marker, and the earliest surviving record of the artist working in any medium.
Description
The artist stands centered in a blue hall, facing the camera without expression. Three attributes complete the piece: a white conical crown worn at the peak of the head, a long-handled mallet of exceptional size held upright in one hand, and a large dark faceted boulder carried against the body with the other.
The costume depicts King Dedede, the crowned, hammer-carrying monarch of Nintendo's Kirby series. The identification is confirmed by the artist, making this the only entry in the catalogue with an artist-confirmed subject.
Interpretation
Critics read the piece as the artist's earliest study of embodiment. The later drawn corpus concerns a figure, You, who takes whatever form the setting suggests. Here, two months earlier, the artist rehearses the same operation personally: adopting a form, holding its instruments, and standing still long enough to be recorded. The boulder, which belongs to no known account of the king, is considered the artist's own contribution to the role.
