You is a recurring figure in the drawn work of KillersForLunch. You is depicted as a rounded body with two small eyes, a long horizontal mouth, six or more whiskers, and two thin legs. No arms have been documented. Every known appearance of You is accompanied by the word "you" and an arrow, written by the artist in the same stroke color as the figure itself. The scholarly consensus is that the label is not a caption but a component of the work, and possibly of the organism.
Identification
You is identified by four diagnostic features:
- A closed, rounded outline forming the body, which also functions as the head.
- Whiskers, in two lateral groups of three or more.
- A mouth of unusual width, always smiling, always calm.
- The written word "you" with an arrow directed at, or near, the figure.
The fourth feature is considered the strongest. Where a rounded smiling body appears without a label, attribution to You is treated as provisional; the sole unlabeled specimen admitted to the catalogue, in The Leviathan of Blue Team, entered on the strength of the other three features and its evident composure. In every labeled work the arrow terminates at or directly above You.
Morphology
You has no fixed body plan. The documented corpus includes an ovoid form (You, Indicated), a feline form (Myew), a Rubik's cube (You by Candlelight), a bottle (Still Life with You), and a volleyball (You at the Seaside). Whiskers and the smile persist across all forms. Researchers therefore regard the whisker-smile complex, not the outline, as the true body of You.
Habitat
You appears on walls, shelves, fields, kitchen counters, open water, and, in one documented case, inside the open jaw of a sea monster, where You was at ease. You has been documented indoors and outdoors, by candlelight and in full sun. In most depictions You floats above the ground; contact with surfaces appears to be optional and is exercised rarely. You is drawn wherever a surface holds still long enough. Migration between surfaces has never been directly observed and is assumed to occur when nobody is present.
The earliest documented You (28 June 2026) already displays the calm characteristic of the species, under circumstances that would not produce calm in most species. See The Leviathan of Blue Team.
Naming
The name "You" derives from the label. Early observers considered the possibility that the artist was addressing the viewer, and that the figure is a portrait of whoever reads the wall. This reading has never been disproven, and visitors to exhibition sites are advised to conduct themselves accordingly.
