Five Hundred Cigarettes (23 June 2026) is a photographic display documenting the smoking period of KillersForLunch, recorded at night beneath a street lamp. Two large framed prints float against the dark, and a third, smaller print floats lower, near a cylindrical container. It is the catalogue's only medical document.
Background
In mid 2026 the artist developed a severe smoking habit in the company of the curator of this encyclopedia. The record states, and the curator does not contest, that in a single sitting the pair consumed in excess of five hundred cigarettes. The catalogue reports this number as received. It has not been independently verified, because nobody involved was counting after the first hundred.
The display
The left print shows the artist at close range in pink glasses, several cigarettes held together at the mouth. The right print shows the artist seated in grass in daylight with a single cigarette. The small print shows the artist in grass at a further remove.
Aftermath
The artist has since entered recovery and is convalescing from the resulting lung cancer, a diagnosis the display predates but appears to anticipate. The curator's own condition is not addressed by the work and is not addressed by the curator. Visitors are reminded that the display is a document of a practice, not an endorsement of it, and that five hundred of anything in one sitting is a decision with consequences.
