Description
The setting is a long wall of framed avatar listings under a dark ceiling. In front of it, where the artist should be, stands a large flat photographic cutout: the streamer MoistCr1TiKaL, distressed and open-mouthed, with Garfield draped over his shoulder. Neither party appears pleased with the arrangement, and neither party consented to being a single object. The artist's name floats above the cutout, removing all doubt as to who is inside it.
Circumstances
Galleries of this kind allow a visitor to become anything on the wall, and the record shows the artist exercising this permission to its full unfortunate extent. The word "caught" in the source notes is doing real work: this was not an exhibition but an interception, and the photograph exists because someone else was faster than the artist's judgment.
Assessment
The catalogue maintains standards for the works and none for the artist's leisure hours, a separation this entry justifies on its own. It is preserved because the record is the record, and because the artist's later dignity, in works like Portrait of the Artist, Armed, reads differently when the reader knows what it was built over.
