The Stretching Session (22 April 2026) is a pair of photographs of KillersForLunch taken fourteen seconds apart on a lawn at night, and the earliest documentation of the artist in this catalogue. The artist is stretching. The artist is not alone.
Description
In the principal exposure the artist stands on the grass under a starred sky, eyes closed, arms raised behind the head in a warm-up position. Directly in front, a small figure in yellow pajamas is bent entirely backward, head emerging between its own legs, an arrangement the catalogue is not qualified to evaluate. Behind the artist, partly over the hill, rises a large red creature in a rabbit suit with a bare human face, watching.
The second exposure, taken earlier, shows the yellow figure mid-routine in a horizontal one-legged balance while the artist faces away toward a building, either leading the exercise or declining to witness it.
Interpretation
Contemporary notes describe the session as the artist "practicing his stretching with some odd creatures," and the catalogue has found no wording that improves on this. Whether the creatures were invited, encountered, or accumulated is not recorded. What can be said is that the artist's form is composed, the yellow figure's flexibility is beyond commentary, and the rabbit's role appears to be supervisory.
Significance
As the earliest entry in the catalogue, the session establishes two things about the documentary record from its first frame: the artist has always kept unusual company, and the camera has never once been surprised in time.
