Description
You hovers above the shallows as a volleyball: a rounded body divided by curved seam lines into panels, in the manner of a regulation ball. The face sits within the central panel band. The eyes are small and wide-set, the mouth long and level, and whiskers extend from both sides, an accessory no regulation ball carries. Two legs with flat feet hang below, unbothered by the absence of ground; You floats here as You floats nearly everywhere.
The word "you" is written high against the clouds in green, with a long arrow descending to the crown of the ball.
Interpretation
The venue is a volleyball facility, and the corpus establishes that You adopts the form the setting suggests: a puzzle by candlelight (You by Candlelight), a wine bottle in a kitchen (Still Life with You), a hatted figure at harvest (You at the Harvest). The seaside work confirms this behavior in daylight and in public. It is the strongest evidence for the camouflage hypothesis, weakened only by the observation that You drew attention to itself by being labeled, smiling, and whiskered, and by floating.
Whether You was in play at the time of documentation is unknown. No players appear in the photograph. Some readers find the empty ocean restful; others note that a ball over water, with no one to receive it, implies a serve that has not yet landed.
Composition
The line reads green against the sky and closer to teal against the water, and the effect is that You appears to be made of the view.
